OILMEN'S ASSOCIATION

A Social club for men from the Oil and Gas industry of the South Peace Area

About Us
The South Peace Oilmen’s Association was formed in 1990 and registered under the BC Societies Act in January of 1991.

The purpose of the organization is to bring men involved or interested in the oil and gas industry together socially. The oil and gas industry is the common thread.

The organization began with about 25 members and has flourished over the years. Membership is now at 70 and interest is building as oil and gas activity increases.

Although the original purpose was social in nature, the club has helped with many community projects and fund raising efforts. Club members take pride in a mandate to focus on helping children.

The first project in 1991 was a major repair at the Dawson Creek Ski Hill. The entire club participated in work through that summer on the groomer, snow making system, T-bar lift and hill to help restore the viability of the facility.

Other projects over the years include:

  • installation of the waterslide at Centennial Swimming Pool,
  • participation in construction of the Dawson Trail,
  • an annual bursary of $1000,
  • a major donation for the time clock in the memorial arena,
  • a major donation to the motocross club,
  • a major donation to the Dawson Creek multi-plex,
  • the big Christmas tree in town centre each Christmas .

The South Peace Oilmen’s Association also conducts social events for the benefit of its members and others from the oil and gas industry.

The newest venture is the Lobster Fest. The first annual was held on May 13, 2006 . The event was successful as a social event and also raised $22,000 each for the Hospital Foundation and the Dawson Creek Ski Club.

The flagship event for the past 16 years has been the Oilmen’s Golf Tournament. The 2006 tournament was the most successful ever with $20,000 raised for the Lauren fund.

The most recent contribution is $10,000 to purchase a platinum foot of the Dawson Trail bridge project that has been designated the “Legacy Project” for the 2006 BC Oil and Gas Conference.
